RR TOWCON RT AHT Winch Operation Training
Objective
To acquire an understanding of towing and anchor handling winch operations for winches up to 600 metric tons pulling capacity. The course is designed to meet the requirements of STCW 2010 Section B-V/e and GOMO Section 5.4.5.3.
Participants
The course is designed for Deck Officers and Engineer Officers engaged in operating towing and anchor handling winches on offshore vessels.
Course Content
The course provides a general understanding of winch operation during the range of operations carried out during anchor handling and towing operations, including normal and emergency situations.
- Types of winches including use and operation.
- Introduction to components and layout of the winch system
- Terminology, phrases, and abbreviations.
- Winch computer uses and limitations
- Winch capacities and wire length monitoring.
- Tension control and load monitoring.
- Emergency functions, including emergency release and emergency braking.
- Ancillary deck equipment including towing pins and stoppers.
Language, Literacy and Numeracy Requirements
This course requires the ability to read and interpret typical product specifications, job sheets, procedures, and safety information as provided to operators. Writing is required to the level of completing workplace forms. Numeracy is required to calculate loads and weights. The course is delivered in English.
Assessment & Competency Achievement
There is no formal assessment carried out at the completion of the course. 100% attendance and participation in the course is required. Participants will be awarded a Certificate of Training on completion of the course.

Day 1 8:30am to 4:30pm
Day 2 8:30am to 4:30pm
Day 3 8:30am to 3:30pm

This course fee includes lunch, and morning and afternoon tea at the center
