Dynamic Positioning Maintenance for Engineers/Kpos & Icon
Objective
Participants completing this course will gain the IMCA prerequisite theoretical knowledge and some practical skills experience to support the tasks, duties, and responsibilities of either a Marine Engineer or Electro technical officer on a Dynamic Positioning (DP) vessel.
Participants
The course is aimed at Marine Engineers and Electro Technical Officers should be sailing on or be scheduled to be sailing on a DP class vessel and have a minimum qualification of an STCW III/1 or III/2 or III/3 or I/6 Certificate of competence.
Course Content
- DP principles/component parts.
- Operations using DP.
- DP redundancy.
- DP rules and guidelines.
- Company DP policy and procedures.
- FMEA’s proving trials and Annual DP trials.
- Position Reference System.
- DP vessel and environment sensors.
- Power development systems commonly used in DP vessels.
- Best practice E/R watch keeping during DP operations.
- Understanding the architecture of the Kongsberg K-POS and Rolls Royce Icon 2 control systems.
Course Pre-requisites
Course participants should hold, as a minimum qualification, a STCW III/1 or III/2 or III/3 or I/6 Certificate of Competency.
Language, Literacy and Numeracy Requirements
This unit requires the ability to read and interpret typical product specifications, job sheets, procedures, material, labels and safety information as provided to operators. Writing is required to the level of completing workplace forms. The course is delivered in English.
Assessment & Competency Achievement
There is no formal assessment carried out at the completion of the course. 100% attendance and participation in the course is required. Participants will be awarded a Certificate of Training on completion of the course.

This course fee includes lunch, and morning and afternoon tea at the center.
